The Investigations Division includes nine Detectives assigned to specific caseloads, conducting follow-up investigation to cases generated by patrol personnel.
Supporting the investigative work of this division is the Evidence and Property Unit. Evidence personnel conduct a thorough analysis of major crime scenes which includes the search for, and processing of latent prints, crime scene photography and collection of relevent evidence. Property personnel are responsible for cataloging and storage of all evidence and property that comes into the police department.
In addition to the nine Detectives assigned to caseloads, the Investigations Division has one Police Officer assigned to Ontario Regional Interdiction of Narcotics (ORION). They intercept suspicious packages that are going in and out of state and conduct investigations into where narcotics are being shipped to and from.
High Tech Crime Unit
A High Tech Crime Unit, consisting of two detectives, has been established in order to fight Internet fraud, child pornography, theft, and assist in other crimes that may involve computers or in which evidence might be found in computers. Having gone through intensive training in computer investigations, Internet investigations, and computer forensics, the High Tech Crime Unit members have also assisted other law enforcement agencies in crime investigations and are members of the San Bernardino County High Tech Crime Team.
The High Tech Crime Unit has completed numerous computer forensic examinations. Some of these cases involve multiple computers and many pieces of computer media. Over the years, the devices examined has evolved to include smart phones and tablets.
Detectives in the High Tech Crime Unit have testified as experts in computer forensics in both California Superior Courts and Federal Courts.
Narcotics
The Upland Police Department narcotics unit joined with the Ontario Police Department narcotics unit in 1996 in order to more effectively address narcotics issues in both cities as well as the surrounding area. This has proven to be a very effective means of leveraging our resources.
We are interested in the narcotics problems both big and small, here in Upland and Ontario. Our effectiveness can only grow, as citizens become more actively involved. We encourage citizens to call with any information regarding such activity. To aid anyone willing to call and provide information, we have provided some helpful criteria to make it easier when trying to determine what our investigators need.
Anyone can call with information: Upland Police Narcotics, (909) 395-2835.
