Welcome to the “Notable News Weekly”, where we share the weekly email submitted to City Council and staff since its inception in 2022. This email highlights key accomplishments and updates from across all City departments, giving insight into the projects and programs shaping our community. While not an exhaustive list, it demonstrates the remarkable amount of work happening each week and fosters collaboration, efficiency, and teamwork among staff.

This Week's Notable News Highlights: 

  • Police Department- Our Homeless Services Team helped reunite a homeless man with his family in Texas. The man had been living in a tent in Upland and shared that he had traveled to California in search of work. Unfortunately, he was unable to find employment, exhausted his resources, and became homeless. He explained that he had no way to return home, and because of his circumstances, no one was willing to give him a ride. Our Homeless Services Team contacted his family in Texas, who were relieved to learn their loved one was safe. They asked for our assistance in helping him return home. Our team was able to fund his bus ticket and secured a hotel room for the night before his departure so he could shower, get a good night’s rest, and begin his journey home with dignity and confidence. As our team saw him off at the bus station, he asked for a hug, knowing their paths would likely never cross again. A short time later, his family confirmed that he arrived home safely and expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the compassion and assistance provided by the Upland Police Department.
  • Public Works- Preparation is underway for the ‘Hydration Station’ which will be placed at Euclid X 18th Street. This project is sponsored by Girl Scout Troop 377.
