Operations Division

The Dispatch Center at the Upland Police Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is the responsibility of the police dispatcher to accurately, and as quickly as possible, identify the nature of your call and assist in solving the problem. The dispatcher is the critical link between the citizen and the police officer, as they are responsible for screening calls and transferring that information to the police officer.

Because each incoming call may vary from a request for general information to a report of a life threatening incident, the dispatcher must ask specific questions (or control the conversation) to accurately prioritize the call and assign it to a police officer. The faster this information is obtained determines how quickly an officer is able to respond.

When requesting services for non-emergency/non-life threatening situations, we ask for your patience in waiting for the arrival of a police officer, as emergency calls have priority over non-emergency calls. The officer will respond to your call as soon as possible.

EMERGENCY: 911 For police assistance in emergency situations and crimes that are in progress.

NON-EMERGENCY: (909) 946-7624 For police assistance in non-life threatening situations. When calling, please have the following information ready:

  • Type of incident.
  • Is the crime still in progress?
  • Number of suspects, if any; and whether they are armed.
  • Suspect description (race, sex, height, weight, clothing) and last known direction of travel.
  • Vehicle description (color, year, make, model, license plate number) if any; and last known direction of travel.

The Upland Police Department employs 12 full-time and 5 part-time dispatchers, plus one Dispatch Supervisor. Three dispatchers are on duty during the peak hours of operation and at least two dispatchers are on duty the remainder of the day. Our dispatch center is responsible for handling all 911 calls and all emergency line calls 24 hours a day. We also answer all business lines from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily. Our department utilizes the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) computer software and the 800MHz radio system. Dispatchers are also responsible for entering all DOJ, CLETS and NCIC entries.
