Our physical doors may be closed, but we're still here for you to provide your family with Recreation services, including fun-filled activities for all ages, virtual adventures, and helpful information for seniors.

City Of Upland Race Back To School 14 Mile Virtual Fun Run

VIRTUAL FUN RUN DATES:  NOW through Wednesday, September 30th.
REGISTER ONLINE:  NOW through Tuesday, September 15th.

 

Join us for the second event in our Upland Trifecta Challenge series. Exercising for our mental and physical health has never been more important. Plus, this is the perfect way to jump-start your training for our Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk, scheduled to take place in November.

Our virtual fun run is 14 miles long, honoring the 14 schools located throughout the City of Upland (elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, and adult school). You can run at anytime and you’re free to complete the 14 miles indoors on a treadmill or anywhere outside while practicing safe distancing and following all CDC guidelines. The best part is you get to choose the start and finish line and you can take as much time as you like to complete the fun run! Complete it in one day or divide it up among several days, as long as you complete 14 miles. You can complete the virtual fun run anytime through Wednesday, September 30th. Please note that this is a self-coordinated fun run with no setup, chip-timing, or coordinators on-site.

Proceeds from the virtual fun run will benefit the Upland Recreation and Community Services Build-A-Dream Youth Scholarship Program.

EVENT PARTICIPATION INCLUDES:  Event tank top, custom medal, and swag gear.  All items will be mailed directly to your home so NO package pickup is required!  Just don’t peak at the medal until you finish!  Don’t forget to register early if you want your tank-top to wear for your virtual fun run.  Or, show your school spirit by participating in our virtual fun run with a T-shirt from your days in school or support the school your child attends!  Swag bags will start to be placed in the mail on Wednesday, August 24th.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR VIRTUAL FUN RUN RESULTS:  Runners will track their own results and completion is based on the honor system. Although there are no awards or prizes for the first to the finish line, we thought it would still be fun to keep track of the finish time for each participant. Once your virtual fun run is complete, you can submit your results HERE!  Results will be posted the week of October 5th. HERE!

CERTIFICATES:  Once results are posted, search for your name and click on the pin icon to the right. This will enable you to download the certificate on the right side of your screen.

Adult Fitness

Booty Fitness By Studio 30
Did you know that there are many other ways to target muscles of the glutes and hamstrings than just by squats or lunges? In our 4-week virtual session, with homework in between, you will see tightening, toning, and lifting of the booty. These 30-minute classes will leave you with a sense of satisfaction each evening, knowing that you are building muscle, strengthening and shaping the booty with smart, intense workouts.  There will also be a FaceBook group available for this class, providing extra workouts and to post virtual fitness class videos should you miss a live class.  Please Note: This is a virtual fitness class, offered through your personal computer. Class will not be held at Studio 30. The instructor will contact you regarding log-in information.  Classes begin on Tuesday, August 4th at 7:15 p.m. To register, please click the title of class.

Chair Aerobics For Seniors
The intention of chair aerobics is not to limit movement or keep folks off their feet, but rather to increase mobility, feelings of well-being, and encourage physical activity in people who might otherwise think that exercise is out of reach.  Pull up a chair and let's begin.

Pilates For Seniors
Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.  Grab a beach towel or use an exercise mat. Take your time with each lesson and do what you can to move forward with your fitness abilities. 

Silver Sneakers Exercise For Seniors
Silver Sneakers is a health and fitness program designed for adults 65 years & up. Workout from home with live or recorded classes and how-to-videos to help feel stronger, have more energy, and for peace of mind.  A membership is required and is available at no cost for those with participating Medicare plans.

Tai Chi By Instructor, Robert Zailo
Tai Chi is the Chinese art of slow-moving meditation using dance-like, low-impact movements. Chi Gong is the development of internal energy (chi). Improve breathing, calmness, balance and coordination, while increasing strength and flexibility gradually. Yang style Tai Chi uses slow rhythmic movements to achieve greater health.  Once regular programming resumes, please join Robert in a Monday/Wednesday morning or Monday evening Tai Chi session.
