Description

Rather tall and narrow windows suggest that this turn-of-thecentury dwelling is more closely related to the 19th century than the twentieth. One-and-a-half stories, it is capped by a hipped roof with a central gabled dormer containing a pair of doublehung sash windows. Similar dormers face the north and south. Eaves are slightly extended. The porch as been enclosed, leaving a central, recessed entrance with one-over-one double-hung sash windows to both sides. The cottage, which is in fairly good condition, has been re-clad with asphalt shingles. Alterations include the elimination of the porch, the siding and a one-story addition on the north containing a second entrance. RESEARCH NOTES: When the property was assessed in 1899, only the land was valued. In 1900 a $300 improvement was noted. The owners were Wilmer C. and E.J. Williams. The property stayed in the Williams family until 1904-05 when Jacob J. Voth acquired it. Voth was a laborer, according to the 1907 directory. He only lived in this house a few years although he was the assessed owner through at least 1919.
