Description

Located on the southeast corner of Second Avenue and Eleventh Street, this is a one-story Spanish bungalow. It is flat-roofed, except for tiled sheds which cover porches on the west and north elevations. Notched parapets edge the rooflines, with a half of an espadana topping the wall which terminates the west porch at the northwest corner of the building. A chimney, stucco-clad like the body of the house, abuts the espadana wall. Wooden posts with carved bracket-like capitals, define the three bays of the west porch. Deeply shadowed, the entry and two windows open off the space. An archway in the espadana wall leads to the porch from the north. The porch is abutted on the south by a projecting wing with cubic proportions, which contains a window shaded by an aluminum awning and a rectangular vent below the parapet. A similarly scaled wing anchors the northeast corner of the building. Notable for its hints of Mission Revival styling, this residence is in good condition, nicely landscaped, and has no major alterations. RESEARCH NOTES: According to the Historic Houses and Sites file, this was once the home of Louis Kronmeyer (VI'wo Gun Louie"), the local sheriff.
