Description
Simplicity is the keynote of this one-story Craftsman bungalow. Covered by a side gabled roof, the bungalow is sheathed with clapboard and edged with endboards. A front facing gable tops the north half of the street elevation. Slender posts and beams support a gabled hood marking the entrance which is offset below the front gable. Extended eaves, exposed rafters and decorative brackets detail the roof. A double-hung sash window is located to the right (south) of the entrance. The window to the left appears to have been reglazed. The bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This bungalow is historically associated with 1007 East Ninth Street because both were on the same parcel. The northeast corner of 10th Avenue and 9th Street was empty on the 1912 Sanborn. Both houses had appeared by 1928. Although the research is confusing, it may be that this bungalow was built around 1920-21 for John and Mabel Rhoades, who operated the grocery store across the street.
