Description
This one-story duplex reveals the influence of the Colonial Revival style. The side gable roof is broken by gabled hoods over the unit entries near each end of the facade. Elaborate corbels and arched soffits characterize the hoods while exposed rafters in the eaves are derived from the Craftsman style. Sided with clapboard, the building sits on a stone foundation. The glazed entries are elevated two steps above the sidewalk and flanked by pairs of six-over-one double-hung sash windows. No major alterations were observed, and the duplex is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Originally part of the same property that is occupied by 611 E. Ninth St., this duplex had been built by owner E.H. Haury by 1928. Improvement assessment variations between 1922 and 1923, and 1928 and 1929 may be indicative of the possible years of construction.
