Description
Although the porch detailing has been altered, this one-story cottage retains most of its turn-of-the-century characteristics. The cottage is sheathed in wide overlap and rests on a stone foundation. The main volume of the cottage is covered by a bellcast hipped roof which rises into a gablet at the peak. A second gablet protrudes from the north end of the facade. Spanning the full length of the facade, the porch is shaded by a pent roof. Wrought iron porch supports and railings are not original features. Four steps with stone rails lead to an offcentered, paneled and glazed door. Differently proportioned oneover- one double-hung sash windows are placed to both sides of the door. In addition to the porch supports and railings, the siding may have been changed. The cottage is in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The 1912 Sanborn included this house, whose address at the time was still 250. Between 1910 and 1919 the assessed owner of the property was Francis Edwards. The 1916-17 directory lists Edwards as a building contractor living at this location. It seems probable that Edwards erected this house around 1909.
