Description

A pair of offset front gables and cobblestone architectural elements are the focus of the design of this one-story Craftsman bungalow. Both gables are characterized by extended eaves, bargeboards, exposed rafters, and purlins. Sheathed in narrow clapboard, the structure sits on a cobblestone foundation. Four stone pedestals, two marking the entrance to the porch and two marking the corners of the structure, indicate that the porch may have once extended across the facade. Now it occupies the north half and is overlooked by a pair of double-hung sash windows. A tripartite window has been placed between the two pedestals to the south. The two pedestals to the north carry tapered wood posts and support a pent roof. A stone chimney rises above the south elevation. Multiple lights in the upper sashes characterize the facade windows. The bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record indicates that Joshua and Martha Bacon had the house constructed in 1921-22. Long-time residents recall Bacon as a retired minister.
