Description
A fine use of cobblestone distinguishes this one-story Craftsman bungalow. Set under a cross gabled roof, the bungalow is sheathed with narrow clapboard. Roof features include extended eaves, exposed rafters and vertical slats in the gable peaks. The front facing gable is centered on the street elevation and covers a front porch. Wood posts on cobblestone piers with pronounced tapering and a stone wall enclose the porch. Fenestration is symmetrically arranged around a central door with sidelights. Pairs of 611 double-hung sash windows are placed to each side of the porch. The bungalow is intact and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Oscar Frantz, a blacksmith, and his wife Ethel built this house in 1929-30. According to neighbors, Ralph Collier lived in the house during the 1940s and 1950s and A.K. Toews, a prominent Alta Loma rancher, moved in during the 1950s and 1960s to be close to the Mennonite Church.
