Description
The face of the front gable which caps this one-story Craftsman bungalow provides the focal point for its design. Bands of diamond, fishscale, and conventional shingles in the gable end are edged by a corbeled and paneled frieze. A pair of braces support decorative stickwork in the peak of the gable and frame a tripartite latticed and louvered vent. Below the frieze, a recessed porch spans the facade. It is enclosed by a low clapboard wall; clustered posts sitting on the wall anchor each end. A central opening in the porch wall, accessed by four steps, leads to an offset door pierced by four lights. Doublehung sash windows, to which shutters have been added, flank the entry. Alterations to this clapboarded dwelling appear to be limited to the shutters and the foundation. The building is in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The 1912 Sanborn indicates that this home had been erected by that year. Its owners, since subdivision, had been Mrs. Mary Harms (?) and H.H. Sommerfield, a builder who lived in the house. In 1915 when improvement assessments were recorded, Anna Eymann was assessed for the house; the Eymanns lived on Washington. around 1918 Charles A. Perren, an agricultural teacher, purchased the property.
