Description
This turn-of-the-century cottage is covered by a simple bellcast hipped roof. Below the boxed cornice and friezeboard, the structure is sheathed in narrow clapboard. The "L"-shaped porch, cutaway from the southeast corner of the structure, is defined by four Tuscan columns. A solid balustrade and screening enclose the space. Four steps lead to a central door, flanked on the left (south) by a one-over-one double-hung sash window. A one-over- one double-hung sash window on the north half of the facade balances the composition. Besides the screening of the porch, no major alterations were noted. The cottage is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Following the 1904-05 subdivision of the Harwood Brothers tract, C.D. Roberts was assessed for this property in 1906. In 1907 Charles M. Anderson was the owner and apparently lived in the house, according to the 1907 directory which located him on the west side of Campus between B (Ninth) and E (Arrow). Most likely Anderson or Roberts were responsible for the construction of the house.
