Description

This two-story home is a classic example of the Colonial Revival influenced American Foursquare style. Its boxy volume is crowned by a hipped roof which is accented by a central hipped dormer. Boxed eaves are punctuated tripled brackets. The dormer contains a pair of latticed vents separated by an attic window. Narrow lap siding sheathes the structure, banded by a friezeboard and, between stories, by a continuous sill and stringcourse. A pent roof set on ionic columns defines a porch attached to the west side of the facade. Two paneled and glazed doors, oriented perpendicular to each other, open off the space, which is enclosed by a balustrade. A double-hung sash window flanks the entries. On the east half of the lower facade, another window is embellished with a leaded glass upper sash. Two double-hung sash windows are widely spaced on the upper facade. Label moldings accent each of the windows. Complemented by a palm in the parkway, the house appears unaltered and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Mary Frownfelter, the widow of J.W. Frownfelter, was the owner of this property beginning in 1907-08, and lived there according to the directories. Since the house had been built before the 1907 Sanborn was published, either she or previous owners F.S. Quigley (1907) or Daniel F. Shera (1906) were responsible for the construction. There was no improvement on the parcel when the 1903 assessments were made.
