Description
This two-story American Foursquare residence rests on a cobblestone foundation and is covered with narrow clapboard. The hipped roof capping the structure is accented by a central hipped dormer with a tripartite latticed vent. Beneath a pent roof, an attached porch spans the facade. Tuscan columns set on a low porch wall define the space, which has been screened. Doublehung sash windows are located at each end of the upper and lower facade. Framed by leafy trees, the residence is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: On the basis of the history of lots 13 and 14 of the Harwood Brothers Subdivision and the directory listings, it would appear that this house was erected circa 1907-08 as the home of the Hirschler family. Members of the family included Reverend John S. Hirschler and his wife Christine, Otto T. Hirschler, and Amanda Hirschler. John and Otto were partners with A.F. Voight in the Hirschler-Voight Furniture Company, purveyors of "furniture, rugs, mattings, queensware, glassware, pictures, picture framing, etc." at 299 2nd Avenue. John S. Hirschler died around 1915 but his widow and family continued at "311" Sixth Avenue.
