Description
A semicircular path curves from the sidewalk to this one-and-one-half story Craftsman residence. Capped by a front gable roof, the building is sided with clapboard and sits on a cobblestone foundation. Braces and rafters are exposed in the overhanging eaves. An attached porch spans the facade beneath a pent roof and has been enclosed. Tapered posts on pedestals define its original three bays. Four steps with cobblestone rails lead to the central bay, off of which two entries, set perpendicular to each other, open. The fenestration is original, and includes two 2411 double-hung sash windows on the lower story (one within the porch), and two 911 double-hung sash windows on the upper story. The house is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: comparison of the 1907 and 1912 Sanborns demonstrates that this house was erected sometime between those two years. Its owner during that period was Charles E. Roberts whom the directories located on the north side of B (Ninth) 2 houses east of 3rd in 1909-10. Roberts was a foreman at the Mountain View Fruit House. Previous addresses for this property include "495" (1912) and "491" (1928).
