Description
A porch angled towards the corner is the dominant feature of this one-story turn-of-the-century residence. The hipped roof conforms to the plan and is finished with a boxed cornice. Narrow horizontal siding sheathes the structure. A pair of Tuscan columns frame the entry to the porch which has been screened. Single and paired double-hung sash windows are dispersed around the exterior. Set behind a lawn edged with a stone curb, the house is largely unaltered and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The evidence of the Sanborns indicates that this house was built between 1907 and 1912. Alfred P. Haury, of Haury Bros. Upland Variety Store, appears to have owned the property between 1909 and 1913. The owner when improvement assessments resumed being recorded was M.H. Mills. Samuel and Florence Merchant, who operated a dry cleaners, acquired the house in 1920. Previous addresses for this house include "501" (1912) and "515" (1928).
