Description

A hipped roof and box-like proportions are clues to the turn-ofthe- century origins of this one-story house. The roof is varied by a gablet containing a pair of vents and a window over the west portion of the facade. Below a boxed cornice, the building is sheathed in narrow clapboards, trimmed by endboards, and sits on a cobblestone foundation. Below the gablet, a porch has been enclosed and the entry pushed forward. A double-hung sash window is centered on the east half of the facade. The house is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This property experienced most of the same early ownership changes that its neighbor (404) did. After the Magnolia Land and Water Co., Amos G. Allen (1902-03), A.B. Martin (1906), A.C. Burkholder (1907-lo), E.M. Reed (1911), and F.H. Knox (1912-13) were assessed. since the house was shown in the 1907 Sanborn, construction took place prior to that year, probably during the ownership of Martin Burkholder. Subsequent titleholders were John J. Kleinsasser (1915-18), John A. Kliewer (1918), and James and Bertha Dinger (from 1919). Dinger was a door-to-door salesman for Watkins Products.
