Description
A typical turn-of-the-century cottage, this residence is one-story, hipped roofed, and clapboard sided. Centered over the facade, a hipped roof dormer contains two boarded-over vents separated by a panel embellished with a diamond motif. According to the footprint of the house in the Sanborn maps, a porch formerly spanned the facade. Now a narrow entry recess is centered between two large, fixed, pane windows. The cottage sits on a cobblestone foundation and is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Probably erected between the time the tract was subdivided (1908) and the 1912 publication date of the Sanborn, this property had a succession of early owners. They included Ernest Mehl (1908-ll), M.H. Bordwell (1912-14 and 1916), S.E. Beck (1915), Howard Roberds (1918-20) and Sadie F. Penner (from 1921). Howard Roberds, a plumber, and his wife Sadie were apparently the first to live in the house.
