Description
This one-and-one-half-story Craftsman residence sits on a cobblestone foundation behind a white picket fence. A side gabled roof with a central gabled dormer, extended eaves and shaped rafter tails covers the clapboarded structure. The face of the dormer is occupied by a fixed window with diamond patterned mullions set between lattice vents and below stickwork decoration in the peak. Recessed across the facade, the porch is defined by tapered wood posts on cobblestone pedestals and a low cobblestone wall. A centrally located door is flanked by windows banded at the top by two rows of small square lights. With the exception of the screening in of the porch, the residence is intact and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Dentist August L. Van Crom built this house sometime between 1908 and 1912. Since the 1909-10 directory lists him as a resident of Ninth in the first house south of E Street (Arrow), the house was probably erected in 1908-09. After Van Crom, owners of the property included Frank Curtiss (1915), Elizabeth Durig (1916- 18), and J.T. Underwood (from 1919). The former address for the house was "375."
