Description

This one-story residence features turn-of-the-century characteristics. Most notable is the treatment of a front gable over the south end of the facade. A decorative bargeboard, embellished with stickwork and terminating in scrolls, outlines the gable face. Fishscale shingles, broken by a central vent, sheathe the surface. Below the gable, a pent roof shelters a porch containing the entry and a pair of double-hung sash windows. More sash windows are located in the north section of the facade. Alterations include asphalt shingle siding and the porch supports. The cottage appears to be in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Despite its stylistic inclinations, this residence appears to have been built around 1912. It is not shown on the 1912 Sanborn; however, C.J. Nellans, the owner in 1913 and 1914, was listed at this location in the 1912-13 directory. Clement Nellans was a laborer. The next owner, Daniel T. Levely, also lived in the house, along with his wife Sarah. He was in the laundry business.
