Description
This tidy, one-story, turn-of-the-century residence sits beneath the fronds of a palm tree. It is capped by a bellcast hip-roof, sheathed in clapboard, and sits on a cobblestone foundation. A gablet tops the east half of the facade below which a double-hung sash window is centered. Slightly offset to the west, the entry is framed by a pediment on Tuscan columns and sits at the top of four stairs. The west half of the facade may have been a porch originally; it is now enclosed and occupied by a double-hung sash window. Other details of this Colonial influenced, well maintained building include boxed cornices, endboards, and latticed vents in the gablet. RESEARCH NOTES : Although the characteristics of this house point to a c. 1900- 1910 date, the documentation indicates that it appeared on its parcel between 1912 and 1928. Lot splits due to the Pacific Electric Railway tracks to the south created this parcel around 1916-17. Julia Jarvis was the assessed owner at the time of the first improvement in 1917. A widow, she lived across the street. By 1919-20 she lived at "526," the former address of this house. In the 1920s the Clarence Drabes occupied the house.
