Description
This one-story bungalow illustrates the wood-sided English influenced revival style of the 1920s. It is side gabled, with a front gable projecting over a wing on the north side of the facade. The front gable descends at two different pitches, the north side shallower to extend over a vestibule more-or-less centered on the facade. An opening with a pointed head provides visible access to the vestibule on the front (west); pedestrian access is via a small patio that extends in front of the south wing. Two three-over-one sash windows overlook the patio. Three more are centered below a pointed arch vent in the front gable wing. The clapboarded building sits on a stone foundation and is unaltered accept for aluminum awnings. It is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Allen and Frances Mitchell built this house in 1927-28, after owning the lot since 1920. The 1928 directory listed Mitchell as a plumber with the Mehl Hardware Company. Eventually he must have started his own business; a Mitchell Plumbing is still in business in Upland.
