Description
Very similar to 505 and 512 North Eighth Avenue, this is a onestory Craftsman bungalow. Its low-pitched, gable roof presents two front-facing gables to the street. The lower of the two gables caps a porch which spans most of the facade. Roof detailing includes extended beams and vertical vents in the gable ends. Two tapered posts set on battered cobblestone pedestals anchor each end of the porch. Since the cobblestone wall that links them is uninterrupted, access to the porch is from the south. Three openings are shaded by the porch gable, a centered entrance set between two broad windows. Clapboard sheathes the house, which sits on a stone foundation. Alterations include replaced front windows and door and the painting of the stone; however the bungalow is still substantially intact and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Charles and Ella Naylor were the first owner/residents of this bungalow, which was built in 1924-25. Charles Naylor was a painter. Also living in the house were Cletus E. Naylor, the manager of neighbor Herbert C. Naylor's store, and Ruby T. Naylor, a telephone operator.
