Description

Massed under a front gable roof of moderate pitch with extended eaves, exposed rafters, and triangular brackets, this one-story Craftsman bungalow is a simple example of the style. Two tapered wood posts resting on a low clapboard wall define a porch recessed into the southwest corner of the structure. The porch contains a paneled and glazed door and a one-over-one double-hung sash window. A narrowly proportioned sash window is located to the left (north) of the porch. The clapboarded bungalow sits on a cobblestone foundation, is intact and in fairly good condition. REBEARCH NOTES: In common with many of its neighbors, this house has a confused early history in the available documents. It had been built by the time the 1912 Sanborns was drawn; it is shown as "426" on the 1912 map. Amos G. Allen, the subdivider, held the property until about 1919. A rancher, Allen's address was listed in the 1912-13 and 1914 directories as the southeast corner of Campus and Tenth, and merely the east side of Campus is 1916-17. The 1919-20 directories place Eugene Lee, a foreman, and wife Annette at "570" Campus. The address in 1928 was "520."
