Description
This one-and-one-half story Craftsman bungalow is side-gabled, sheathed in clapboard, and sits on a cobblestone foundation. Centered over the facade, a shed-roofed dormer is shingled and contains a pair of small, square openings. Rafters and braces are visible in the overhanging eaves. A porch is recessed within the south half of the facade. The space is enclosed by a low clapboard wall. A single, clapboard-covered pier sits on the wall in the southwest corner. Two openings, a paneled and glazed door and a double-hung sash window, overlook the porch. The remainder of the facade is nearly filled by a tripartite window. Leaded glass embellishes the transom of the central sash. Largely unaltered, the bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES : A $400 improvement was assessed on this lot in 1915 when the assessor resumed recording amounts in the old lot books. The owner at the time was George T. Ames, who had been assessed for the lot since the tract was subdivided around 1908. Ames, a salesman for Green and Company, lived in the house, according to the 1916-17 directory. Subsequently the house was owned by Afa Brand (1918), William and Florence White (1919; he was a mason), and Edward and Anne Polk. A former address for the house was apparently "454."
