Description

Colonial details and a cobblestone foundation are the distinguishing characteristics of this one-story, turn-of-thecentury residence. A hipped roof accented by a centered, hip roofed dormer crowns the clapboarded structure. The south half of the facade is occupied by a recessed porch defined by fluted posts and pilasters with denticulated capitals. Except for a latticework frieze, the porch is not otherwise enclosed. Other Colonial details include a boxed cornice and plain frieze. The north section of the facade contains a single window, adorned with a window box. The only other front opening are a small rectangular window set high up on the rear porch wall and the entry which is oriented perpendicular to the street. An aluminum awning has been added to the north window, but no other alterations were observed. The building is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES : The first improvement on this lot was recorded in 1915, when the owner was William Cline, although the house would appear to predate 1915 stylistically. There was no building on the property shown in the 1912 Sanborn. The Historic House and Sites file says that G. Cline's house was moved to this site from the new location of the Nazarene Church at the northwest corner of Ninth Street and Third Avenue in 1924; however, the 1907 and 1912 Sanborns do not illustrate a house with this footprint at that location.
