Description
An interplay of hipped and gabled roof forms characterizes this one-story, turn-of-the-century residence. From the facade a front gable on the west and a hip roof on the east, both surmounted by a gablet, are visible. Fishscale shingles sheathe the gable ends, with a vent piercing the gablet face. Beneath a stringcourse the building is clad in narrow clapboards and rests on a cobblestone foundation. On the west, a window with a transom-like upper sash embellished with tracery is centered below the front gable. The east half of the facade contains a now-enclosed porch. Turned wood columns are located in its corners. 0ther than the porch, the building is largely unaltered and in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES : The Magnolia Land and Water Company owned this parcel until 1903 when it was assessed to C. Miller. In the following year Louis Birmingham resided in the house according to the 1907 directory. George Harper, a day laborer and the owner between 1908 and 1915, also lived there. Later owners included Julia Ruedy and William Keown .
