Description

A low-pitched side gabled roof covers this one-story Craftsman bungalow. The roof has extended eaves and exposed purlins. Centered over the facade, a shed dormer contains three vents. Sheathed in clapboard, the structure rests on a cobblestone foundation. Brick piers define a porch recessed across the facade and is elevated four steps on a brick foundation. Slender turned wood columns and metal railings are an alteration. A central paneled door is pierced by two tiers of small lights. Large cottage windows with diamond-paned upper sash flank the entry. All of the openings have slightly extended lintels. A stone curb borders the front yard. The structure is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTEB: After passing from the Harwood Brothers, who subdivided the tract to Louis Birmingham, who lived down the street, this property ended up with William E. Estes in 1911. Estes was a plumber. Living with him were Dolores Estes and Gertrude Estes, both orange packers, and John Estes, a student. Estes was later the head of the city water department. Subsequent residents included Mr. 0. Brian, a newspaperman, and Margaret Thrasher.
