Description
Square in plan and capped by a hipped roof, this one-story, turnof- the-century cottage rests on a cobblestone foundation. The roof treatment is characterized by extended eaves, boxed cornice and gable over the south half of the facade. The gable face is clad with shingles while the rest of the structure is sheathed with narrow clapboard edged with endboards. A porch occupies the north half of the facade. An off-centered door and a window to the left (north) open onto the porch. Another window is situated on the south half of the facade, centered below the gable. Alterations include the porch roof supports and the addition of window shutters. The residence is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: A $300 improvement was assessed in 1903 while none was noted in 1900. Since ownership changed from J.M. Sourwine (1900) to Richard Sikes (1901) to O.R. Sikes (1902-06; same person?), it is likely that the house was built in 1901-02. O.R. Sikes, a packer, lived on First between Ninth and Tenth; however, Lizzie Moore, the owner after 1908, apparently did live in the house.
