Description
Wide clapboard siding edged with endboards sheathes this onestory Craftsman bungalow. A front facing gabled roof, accented by gablets over the side elevations, caps the structure. Exposed rafters and triangular brackets are visible in the overhanging eaves. A pergola covered with latticework and vines shields the entrance which is located on the east half of the facade. To the south a large multipaned window with a shed hood is an alteration. In the gable face a small fixed window framed with shutters is topped by a continuous header. The bungalow is in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: On the evidence of the 1912 Sanborns it can be said that this house was built prior to that year. After subdivision of the Pleasant View Tract the owners of the property were B.P. Swartzendurber (1908), J.B. Howell (1909-ll), B.H. Spicer (1912- 13); one of these was responsible for the construction. H.A. Matthews owned the house in 1915-19; he was succeeded by John and Kate Raney (1920-21) and Mary B. Smith (1922).
