Description
Although remodeled, this one-story bungalow retains the basics of its Craftsman design. A front facing gabled roof crowns the clapboarded structure. Tucked underneath the gable, a porch spans the facade. Paired posts connected by latticework support the porch roof. Fenestration is nearly symmetrical and has been altered. A central door is flanked by multi-paned picture windows with shutters, while a rectangular vent with horizontal slats pierces the gable face. The bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Amos G. Allen, the subdivider, sold this lot to L. Sommerfield in 1908-09. The following year 1909-10 Henry Sommerfield, a carpenter, was the assessed owner and was living on the corner of 8th and Boulevard (washington; see 811). The next assessed owner, Henry H. Reimer, was located in this house in the 1912-13 and 1914 directories. Reimer was a salesman with the Hirschler- Voight Furniture Company. Also living in the house in 1914 was Susie Reimer, a milliner with Charles Edelblute. Reimer died a short time later; his widow, Georgie, moved to Second Avenue and W.B. and Vera Harvey purchased this property. The house was either built for the Sommerfields or the Reimers; it was definitely there (I1825l1) when the 1912 Sanborn was drawn.
