Description

Although altered, this one-story cottage reflects the Colonial Revival styling popular around the turn of the century. A simple bellcast hipped roof with a central dormer, friezeboard and boxed cornice crowns the dwelling. Covered with asphalt shingles, the dwelling rests on a stone foundation. Spanning the facade, a front porch is tucked underneath the hipped roof. Three Tuscan columns stand on the low porch wall. An off-centered door and two one-over-one double-hung sash windows overlook the porch. The structure is in fair condition, and unaltered except for the siding. RESEARCH NOTES: The span of years within which this house was constructed is 1903-1912; there was no improvement assessed in 1903 and the house is on the 1912 Sanborn. The property changed hands in 1907, when D.W. Kankel (a doctor) is the assessed owner, and again in 1908, when W.H. Spicer is assessed. The 1909-10 directory lists Spicer on First Avenue. Subsequent owners were A.J. Doner (1910) and E.G. Morley (1911-13), and Flora Morley (from 1915).
