Description

This one-and-one-half story dwelling incorporates picturesque Craftsman era details. Sheathed in narrow clapboard, the structure is capped by a front facing gable with a vent in the peak. It rests on a cobblestone foundation and is approached by three cement steps with cobblestone rails. An attached porch is sheltered by a bellcast roof descending from just below the vent, and enclosed by four Tuscan columns and a solid clapboard rail. A shed-roofed dormer protrudes from the gable roof to overlook the side yard. Extended and notched bargeboards and rafters detail the roofs. Double-hung sash windows flank the slight offset door in the porch. Intact, the building is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This house was probably built after it passed from B.P. Swartzendruberls ownership in 1908. Subsequent owners included Clarence Tyler (1909), Elsen Rosenberger (1910), and M.B. Lathrop (beginning in 1911). "859" did appear on the 1912 Sanborn.
