Description
An especially handsome use of cobblestone distinguishes this one-and- one-half story Craftsman bungalow. Clapboard sided, the building is capped by a side gable roof. A large gabled dormer with a balcony is a focal point of the facade. The roofline is accented by extended eaves, exposed rafters and purlins and triangular brackets. Latticework occupies the peak of each gable. Battered wood piers with cobblestone pedestals define the three bays of a porch recessed across the facade. A cobblestone wall encloses the porch as well as the sunroom at the southeast corner of the bungalow. Arched slits in the stonework allow for drainage. Four steps with stone rails lead the central doorway. It is flanked by windows with diamond-paned upper sashes. A band of multi-paned casements encloses the sunroom. The bungalow is intact (although the sunroom may have originally been a porch) and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Henry Krehbiel, a rancher, was the first owner of this property after the tract was subdivided. In 1912 he was succeeded by John Erixon, a painting contractor. The property had been improved by the 1912 publication of the Sanborn maps. John and his wife Lena, a clerk at J.J. Atwood's, were in residence at the time the 1912-13 directories were issued. In the 1920s Henry Harnis lived at this location. He was a purchasing agent with General Electric.
