Description
This simply detailed Craftsman bungalow is sheathed in narrow clapboard. A low pitched front facing gabled roof covers the dwelling. Posts support another, smaller gable which tops a projecting porch, A small vent with latticework punctuates the face of the primary gable while open stickwork occupies the face of the porch gable. Extended eaves with exposed rafters and triangular brackets detail the roofs. Fenestration within the porch is arranged in an asymmetrical manner with the doorway offcenter, a large fixed window to the east and two widely spaced one-over-one double-hung sash windows in differing sizes to the west. The east window may have been altered. The house is in fairly good condition. In the rear of the property, 234 North Eighth Avenue is a onestory bungalow. Simple Craftsman elements of the design include a front gable roof with slightly extended eaves, clapboard siding, and a central park defined by another gable set on paired supports. The offset entry is flanked by one-over-one doublehung sash, Largely unaltered, the bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record indicates that L.V. Chowning was the owner of this property in 1923, the year an improvement was first assessed.
