Description
Sheathed in clapboard, this one-and-one-half story Craftsman dwelling rests on a cobblestone foundation. A distinctive central gabled dormer sits atop a side gabled roof. Slightly flaring eaves and shaped rafter tails are used throughout. The face of the dormer is occupied by three one-over-one double-hung sash windows and a vent with latticework in the peak. An arched collar beam supported by triangular brackets frame the vent. Recessed across the east three-quarters of the facade, the porch is divided into three bays by wood posts. The central bay contains an offset, glazed door while double-hung sash windows occupy the side bays. Four steps with stone rails lead to the open porch. Appearing substantially unaltered, the building is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The first owner and resident of this house after the subdivision of the tract seems to have been Leonard Sommerfield. A carpenter, Sommerfield probably built the house around 1908, adding the distinctive gable treatment. The next owner was Burrill W. Harmon, who lived in the house in 1912-13 according to the directory. Previous address for the house include 907 Railway Boulevard (1912 Sanborn) and 911 Washington Boulevard (1928 Sanborn).
