Description
A low-pitched, front-facing gabled roof covers this one-story Craftsman bungalow. A second gable extends over a porch offset on the west half of the facade. The roofs feature extended eaves and bargeboards, with exposed rafters and beams; vertical slats ventilate the primary gable peak. The porch gable is further articulated by a truss which rests on paired wood posts set on cobblestone pedestals. Screening encloses the porch with the original openings, topped by slightly extended lintels; barely visible to the right (east) of the porch is a one-over-one double-hung sash window. Sheathed in clapboard, the bungalow sits on a cobblestone foundation. It is in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: The assessment record indicates that this house was built in 1920, either for Walter C. & Ava B. Jones who owned the property for that one year or for Harvey E. and Helen L. McMasters. In 1922-23 the directories show McMasters and his wife, Laverne, living at 925 Washington (re. this house); he was a boxmaker at the Upland Citrus Association. Later directories identify McMasters as a carrier for the post office. In the late 1930s the house was purchased by Mrs. A.Z. Daniel; her daughter lived there until 1984.
