Description

Cobblestone enlivens the construction of this one-story Craftsman bungalow. A cross-gabled roof with extended eaves and exposed rafters and purlins caps the bungalow. Sheathed in clapboard, the structure rests on a stone foundation. A smaller gabled roof extends over a porch situated on the north end of the primary facade. Sharply tapered columns with stone bases and a stone wall enclose the porch space. The opening is spanned by a beam over which joists are exposed. Three steps lead to a central entry. It is flanked by a tripartite window with diamond-paned upper sashes to the east and a double-hung sash to the west. The south facade is anchored by a stone chimney. The only alteration to the bungalow appears to be the addition of awnings over the windows. It is intact and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Milton R. Colborn, a cement worker, was probably the first owner of this house. Previously the property had been assessed to B.P. Swartzendruber (1906-08) and the trustees of A.O. Hadden. Colborn owned the house from 1912 until 1918. It appeared on the 1912 Sanborn as "939."
