Description
This one-and-one-half story Craftsman bungalow is covered by a front facing gabled roof. Extended eaves with exposed beams and rafters detail the roof. A window, which has been reglazed, is located in the face of the gable below a vent composed of vertical stickwork. Clapboard sheathes the building, which sits on a stone foundation. Tapered posts on paneled pedestals anchor each end of a porch recessed across the facade. An offset door of wood pierced by four square lights and flanking windows overlook the porch. The porch railing and intermediate supports have been replaced. The bungalow is in fair condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This house can be dated between 1912, when the Sanborn pictured an empty lot, and 1915, when a $350 improvement was assessed to Oscar Hill & T.G. and Mathilda Stickney. Either the house was built for its trio of owners who purchased the property in 1914 or H.H. Sommerfield, a carpenter who lived down the street, erected the house on spec and sold it immediately.
