Description
A wealth of details enriches this one-story Craftsman bungalow. A front facing gabled roof, punctuated by exposed beams crowns the bungalow which rests on an artstone foundation. The gable is faced with fishscale and diamond shingles beneath a vent in the apex. Below a corbeled and paneled frieze, the bungalow is sheathed with medium clapboard. The west half of the facade is occupied by a recessed porch, defined by a clapboard wall and two wood posts. Centered under the gable in the porch, the door is pierced by four elongated lights linked by a corbeled sill. To the left (west) a cottage window has a diamond-paned upper sash. The north half of the facade contains a tripartite window. Unaltered, the bungalow is in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: Another house appears to have preceded this bungalow on the lot. The 1912 Sanborn shows a one-and-a-half story residence, differently positioned, at "953." At the time the property was owned by Henry Sommerfield. Subsequently the assessment record lists J.S. Hirschler (1915) and Mrs. Marie Voight (from 1916) . A $350 improvement assessment was recorded in 1915, but it is unclear whether it reflects the current or former structure. The present building is illustrated in the 1928 Sanborn.
