Description
An extensive use of cobblestone is the distinguishing feature of this one-and-one-half-story Craftsman bungalow. The bungalow is topped by a front gabled roof with overhanging eaves, exposed rafters and a shed dormer overlooking the side yard. The dormer and gable face and sheathed with wood shingles while the lower part of the bungalow is veneered in stone. The entrance to the porch cutaway from the northeast corner faces east towards Tenth Avenue, Raised shingled window bays punctuated with corbels are located on the gable face and to the right (west) of the porch. A stone chimney rises up the west elevation. Except for the painting of the stone, the bungalow appears to be unaltered and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: This was the home of Edwin B. Van Wormer, who was involved in real estate subdivision in Upland. A dentist by trade, Van Wormer was assessed for this property from 1907 until 1912. John Erixon, a neighbor across the street, owned the house from 1915 until 1918. Peter and Ann Penner were the owner/residents beginning around 1920.
