Description
This one-story Craftsman bungalow is characterized by a variety of roof shapes. The clapboarded structure sits on a cobblestone foundation and is capped by a predominately hipped roof. A gablet atop a pent roof is located at the east end of the porch that spans the facade. The porch entrance is marked by a front gabled pediment. Stout columns carry the corners of the pent roof and the pediment. An offset entry and a band of four one-over- one double-hung sash windows open off the porch. Major alterations include an addition on the east elevation, the entry, and perhaps the porch. The building is in fairly good condition. RESEARCH NOTES: In 1912 a different structure occupied this site, located at the rear of the lot facing Ninth Avenue. By the publication of the 1928 Sanborn the present house had been constructed and the rear house removed. Probably Fred Mullen, the owner between 1912 and 1921, or Robert and Hazel Beard, the subsequent owners, were responsible for the change. Mullen, an employee of the Santa Fe railroad, lived on 9th.
