Description
Another of Upland's combinations of Craftsman and turn-of-the-century elements, this is a one-story residence. The primary features of the clapboarded building include: a hipped roof with a central gablet; exposed rafters and extended eaves; symmetrical fenestration composed of an entry flanked by doublehung sash windows; a recessed porch defined by a cobblestone wall and wood posts; and a cobblestone foundation. The bungalow appears to be intact and in good condition. RESEARCH NOTES : This cottage was either built for E.C. and V.B. Lush in 1909-11 or Jason W. Whitney around 1912. The house appears on the 1912 Sanborn as "1066." Jason Whitney lived at this location and was in poultry, according to the 1912-13 directory. The 1914 edition described him as a rancher. The property was subsequently assessed to: F.L. Purvis (1918); Frank Goodban (1919); and Virgie Smith Goodban and Frank Goodban beginning in 1921.
