Description
An L-shaped veranda adds a note of distinction to this simple one-story turn of the century cottage. Its boxy shape is derived from a hipped roof. Plain wood posts with carved brackets support a pent roof which covers the veranda. A slightly offset entry, flanked by a tall, double-hung sash window on the right (north) and broader window with a transom-like sash on the left overlook the open veranda. Sheathed with clapboard and trimmed with endboards, the cottage appears to be in fairly good condition. The only visible alteration is the treatment of the roof fasciae. RESEARCH NOTES: T. Bradbourne owned this lot between 1895 and 1900 when no improvements were assessed. Niles B. Walter, an agent with C.C.U. Upland (per the 1907 directory) was assessed 1901-09; the first improvement is entered in 1901 at $300. Walter's profession was listed as "real estate" in 1909-10. After 1910 the assessed owner is Isabella D. Walter.
