Description
Although altered, this two-story residence retains the outlines
of its American Foursquare styling. A hipped roof, accented by a
centered, hipped dormer, caps the structure. The entry is lined
up below the dormer and is flanked by broad windows with transomlike
upper sashes. Tripartite openings appear elsewhere on the
house. When the building was remodeled it was given some of the
attributes of the Monterey Revival style, including a balcony
across the facade, stucco sheathing, and a fluted pilaster entry
surround. The house is in good condition and surrounded by
mature vegetation and trees.
As one of the old grove houses on Euclid Avenue this residence
constitutes a link in the history of Upland. It is located on
lot 505 of the Ontario Colony. The assessment record indicates
that Louiee Stamm was assessed for the property as early as 1900,
when the assessment included an amount for trees and vines, but
not for any improvements. George T. Stamm became the owner in
1914, by which time the house had been built. Stamm was a
rancher, like most of his neighbors on Euclid Avenue. He
achieved local notoriety from his victimization by a couple of
bank robbers. He occupied the house at least through the 1920s
with his wife Myra.
