Description
This two-story Craftsman residence is nearly identical to the one at 533 North Third Avenue. It is front-gabled, with the rear portion of the building topped by a cross gable. A porch is recessed across the facade, with the second floor overhang supported at the corners by battered wood posts on cobblestone pedestals. Intermediate support is provided by full height tapered posts. Open but separated from the yard by a flower bed with low cobblestone walls, the porch is approached by four shallow steps to the central bay. Located off-center from the stairway, the entry is a wood door with six lights in the upper portion. Large tripartite windows with upper sashes decoratively divided by muntins are situated on either side of the entrance. A series of one-over-one double-hung sash windows bands around the second story of the facade. The structure is sheathed in narrow clapboard, wrapped by a friezeboard between stories, and detailed by overhanging eaves, protruding beams, exposed rafters and vertical boards in the gable peaks. It is intact, in good condition, and complemented by landscaping. RESEARCH NOTES: According to the directories Henry Ledy was a laborer with the Upland Lemon Grower's Association in 1922-23, and a driver in 1924. The date of first assessed improvement established the construction year.
