Description
This two-story English Revival residence-turned-office is something of an anomaly in the district. Sheathed with brick, the building has a hipped and gabled roof. A front gable has one slope longer than the other, emphasizing the asymmetric and picturesque character of the design. Decorative half-timbering appears in the gable end. A chimney of exaggerated proportions, articulated differently at each level, rises up the front elevation. To either side, single and double multi-light casements are set into raised brick surrounds. Alterations include the enclosure of the former entry at the south end of the facade and the porte cochere which is recessed on the south elevation. In good condition, the property is bordered by a low brick wall with pylons flanking the former driveway. RESEARCH NOTES: The second house on this corner, this house was built in 1928 by Harry Flowers, a rancher. Previously Flowers had lived in a smaller, wood-frame residence built by Flower's uncle, L. Scott Allen. Allen probably built the original house in 1905-06, after purchasing the property from the Magnolia Land and Water Company. This wood house may have been moved around the corner onto F Street.
