Description
This former packing house occupies a nine-acre parcel on 19th
Street a few blacks east of Euclid. Utilitarian in design and
construction, the building is one and two stories tall and topped
by gabled and flat roofs. Fenestration includes multi-paned
industrial sash, double-hung sash, and large, paneled doors on
the receiving docks. Some of the openings have been filled in.
The building appears to have been sided with roughly texture
stucco. It is in fairly good condition.
Assessment records indicate that this building was erected in
1936-37 for the Old Baldy Citrus Association. However, a notice
in the U~land News in December 1914 regarding the construction of
a packing house for the Upland Warehouse Company on 19th near a
nearly completed spur of the Santa Fe tracks may indicate a
previous facility on the site. The Upland Warehouse Company was
a subsidiary of the Upland Citrus Association. As a packing
house built over fifty years ago for the industry that shaped the
history of Upland until the post war era, this building is a
significant historic resource.
