Description

A subtle colonial influence can be discerned in the appearance of this one-and-one-half story farmhouse. Surmounted by a front gable roof, the building is sheathed in clapboards and sits on a cobblestone foundation. A shed-roofed porch is attached to the east two-thirds of the facade. Plain posts support the porch roof. The porch floor, elevated two steps, is brick paved. A pair of six-over-one double-hung sash windows and the entry overlook the space. Another pair of windows are located west of the porch. Both single and paired openings are disposed around the upper story. A cobblestone chimney rises up the west elevation. Located on a parcel nearly one acre in size, the house appears to be mostly unaltered and in fairly good condition.

The assessment record suggests that this former grove house was built in 1927-28. Fern Tolley was the owner at the time. In 1934-35 Edna 3. Dabs gained title to lot 197 of the 0ntario Colony. She and husband Henry were listed in the directories as ranchers. This house is significant as one of the intact grove houses which are scattered throughout the subdivisions of Upland.
